Service-learning Project at Kindergartens and Elderly centres

Date: 08/02/2024

Our P.5 students recently participated in a service-learning project, where they had the opportunity to serve at kindergartens and elderly centres. This programme provided them with a platform to apply their acquired knowledge and gain valuable experiences.

During their time at the kindergartens, the students were actively engaged in games and learning activities, taking on the role of junior teachers and accompanying the young children. This experience helped them develop a deeper understanding of the needs of young children and taught them how to care for them. At the elderly care centres, the students interacted with the elderly, engaging in conversations, sharing stories, and reminiscing. These interactions brought joy and warmth, fostering respect and appreciation for the wisdom and experiences of the elderly.

Through this service-learning project, the students were able to cultivate important skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership. Simultaneously, it nurtured qualities like empathy, concern for others, and a sense of social responsibility. These qualities are essential for them to become contributing members of society.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Salvation Army Tin Ka Ping Kindergarten, the Salvation Army Shui Chuen Oi Kindergarten, the Tsung Tsin Mission of HK On Chung Kindergarten, TWGHs Chan Tat Chee Connect Community Support Centre for the Elderly, TWGHs Fong Yun Wah Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, and the Hong Kong Church of Christ Anshung Kindergarten for their support. We eagerly anticipate more service-learning opportunities in the future, as they play a crucial role in cultivating outstanding citizens who care for society.
